Recommendation:
If you don't install the Image in flash memory, the flash image shouldn't be of a old version. A swap file/partition (>= 16MB) should be present
if several processes running in background.

We'd like to thank everybody who paricipated in the "Gemini suggestion" thread. Unfortunatly many things can not be realized from our side.
This images doesn't contain any keys or softcams. Backups or other modified Images are not from us and won't be supported!

Recommendation:
If you don't install the Image in flash memory, the flash image shouldn't be of a old version. A swap file/partition (>= 16MB) should be present
if several processes running in background

Our clone box recognition mechanism caused large waves in the last days and many opinions have been told to us. On the one hand there have been the enraged owners of clone, who had to install their addons manually now without Blue panel. Then there have been the people who simply did not understand Linux and the GPL and accused us of GPL-breach. Also a financial dependence or support from Dream Multimedia and or sponsors was subordinated to us.

On the other hand there have been over 1500 users of our forum who singned our explanation.

All in all our action was accepted very positively and we achieved our intended goal to give an impulse the owners of clone boxes. There have also been cases in which people who thought they owned a genuine Dreambox noticed because of this action that they are owners of a clone box. Too our own surprise according to unconfirmed messages, now one of the manufacturer changed over to supply their own images.

Recapitulatory we note, it was never our intention to insert a waterproof recognition and to get in a Cat-and-mouse game between us and the box manufacturer. Our intension was to push a general discussion to create a consciousness on the clone and reproduction problem and to disasociate us from the clones, too. In the context of our possibilities as image developer we have used the one and only available possibility to make our point of view clear. As image-developer we have absolutly no influence on sponsors, dealers or Dream Multimedia. Our influence on the persons and companies involved in this relationship is very limited and lacked also on support from some places. In any case we get attention on our displeasure and we did not send newsletters of our sponsors containing information about clones. We will keep this in the future.

As we all are Dreambox fans we would like to say clearly, that it is in the exclusive responsibility of Dreammultimedia to proceed against clones. Only DMM has the possibilities (e.g. legal) which might be the only effective method against clones.

For us as Gemini developer and operators of the IHAD this action is now finished. With the upcoming release 4.3.1 of the Gemini Project the clone recognition will be deactivated. We nevertheless ask everyone to use its influence to proceed against clones.

Gemini 430 Blue Panel fix Veskop told me why the blue panel on the
gemini 430 image will not work on an Eagle.

It is because they are checking to see if you have
an original dreambox mac address which all start with 00:09:34

I have sucessfully changed the mac address on the eagle
to one starting with 00:09:34 and now the gemini 4.3 image
works 100%

It is a software fix only and will not harm your box in any way.
it just runs a file at startup which changes the mac address.

If at anytime you want to go back to the original Eagle mac address
then just delete the file and reboot or install another image.

If this is the way Gemini are doing things now, you will need to do this
with every Gemini image from 4.3 and up, who knows, it maybe that
it is now part of the Dreambox CVS, and that every new image from any
Group will need this for full functionality

Anyway the instructions are as follows.

Download the Gemini 430 image
Flash Gemini 430 image to box.
Reboot

Easy Method



All you have to then do is edit the mac address inside it in notepad,
then FTP it across to the dreambox , changing attibutes to 755 then reboot.

Remember to edit the mac address in the file or else everyone downloading it
will have same mac adddress on their Eagle.

It must start with 00:09:34

The last three columns should either be numbers 0-9 or letters a-f
ie 0a:9f:cb

So the whole mac address would be similar to this 00:09:34:0a:9f:cb

To return to your original Eagle mac address just delete
the file and reboot, or install a different image.


Manual Method

Use DCC 2.95 to telnet to eagle box.

you will see prompt as follows



type the following lines followed by enter obviously.
in the mac address i left the last three columns as xx:xx:xx
these should either be numbers 0-9 or letters a-f
ie 0a:9f:cb

So the whole mac address would be similar to this 00:09:34:0a:9f:cb

Summary

Both these methods create a file in /var/etc called init which runs on every
reboot, and changes your mac address to one like an original dreambox .

This will give you a fully working blue panel on gemini 4.3
but remember if you use mac address reservation in your router
to give your dreambox a constant ip address , you need to
change your settings there too.

To return to your original Eagle mac address just delete
the file and reboot, or install a different image.

Recommendation:
If you don't install the Image in flash memory, the flash image shouldn't be of a old version. A swap file/partition (>= 16MB) should be present
if several processes running in background. We assume no liability for direct or indirect damage.

Ive installed this image in a DM 500s via Null Modem cable with Dreamup. all worked great other than screen roll.. I cannt see anything on my tv because the screen keeps rollin. anybody have this problem before?? how can i fix it? or did i mess something up??
