Many users have reported that DM800 suddenly stops working, especially when watching HD channels. Other has reported that their whole LAN has died when DM800 hangs.

All this has to do with the temperature of the Broadcom chip inside the DM800. When it does get too hot, DM800 do freeze and network may die.

To solve this, add a small cooling rib on top of the Broadcom chip.
I did use some rubber between the ribs and tuner module to keep it in place.

I have talked to DMM about this, and they may come with a cooling kit for the DMM. User can then install this they self, or send DM800 to DMM to get it fixed.

I have the same problems and decided to do it may way.
Just put a fan inside but first it was too noicy, then I replace it with the one from the notebook so it is now pretty quiet.

Just wanted to add a very easy and quick solution I did with my DM800.

I took a old CPU cooler fan (40mm x 40mm) and connected this to the 5V of the HDD power supply (to keep it very silent).
Simply stripped a few mm of the wires and pushed them into the power connector to the HDD.
I removed the eSATA connector, since I don't use it, and lead the wires trough there and simply laid the fan on top of the box.
I placed it in such a fashion that it draws air out of the box, thereby making cool air being drawn in from the sides and bottom.

I have a Samsung 250GB disk connected too, and the fan causes no problems power vise or to the performance of the disk/box.
This is of course not the most esthetically pleasing solution, but it works extremely well and my box keeps the temp very close too room temperature.

My box is placed in a rather "dark place" so my quick-fix doesn't show easily with a small black fan on top of a black box.
If you want to mount the fan inside (which might be even more effective) I'd suggest using double sided tape and stick it to the top cover. Again I think making sure it's mounted in a way that it blows air out of the top is the best solution, since you know, warm air rises.

I might add I've seen bro's solution on many boards but be advised that quite a few of those laptop coolers make quite some noise, so make sure to check the dB-level of the device before you go for it.

Well, that's my 2 cents. Hope it was helpful to someone. :)

Cheers

I have two Dreamboxes, DM800 and a DM500S I purchased two laptop cool pads that are powered by a 5v USB connection. At first i ran both from the DM800 USB port (the cool pad has an additional USB port on its side to compensate for the loss of the one rear port). Then i purchased a small 220v to 5vd.c. plug top converter / adaptor and powered the two coolpads from the mains. This is very simple, quick and fairly cheap option rather than modifying the box. I have my 500GB HDD running inside and now the both boxes are cool if not COLD to the touch!! My HDD average temperature is around 45 DegC.

Are you using the 2 boxes (500s and 800hd) at the same time as, How did you set them up?

Outstanding! Hope they'll do that soon - i have three little coolers blowing hot air off my dm800 (one below and two on the case) and still don't trust them to efficiently cool the processor and tuner. LilleMamma, if you get any news on this matter, please keep me posted.

Best regards!
